Sticky: Bach Children’s Chorus of Nazareth College [click to read more…]

by RAS ~ January 1st, 2010. Filed under: Group Description.

Children singing Handel, Bach, Puccini, Mahler, Britten (and Webber, Gershwin and other modern composers), often in complex 3-part harmony… this chorus is made of kids who love really good vocal music. The Bach Children’s Chorus is comprised of students ages 8 through 15 from throughout the greater Rochester area. The children perform from memory and have been repeatedly commended for their clear diction, musical expression, and remarkable proficiency in difficult repertoire. The 70+ singers in the Chorus practice and learn the music on their own during the time between scheduled rehearsals. The group sessions are spent fine-tuning the singers, studying the poetry, and mastering the challenges of ensemble performance. Students also learn music theory according to their experience level in music.

Auditions are held each year in April/May and the season runs from September to June. The BCC is in residence at Nazareth College of Rochester, NY and registration is through their preparatory Music department.

A Mozart Chorus for younger singers (4-8 years old) teaches folk tunes and basic theory.

A non-profit organization, Friends of the Bach Children’s Chorus, Inc., provides theory instructions, choral management and some financial aid for choral members.
