Rochester Oratorio Society performs Beethoven’s Mass in C Major

by ROS ~ January 30th, 2013. Filed under: Event, GRCC Announcements.

Masterpieces of choral and solo vocal music resound in beautiful Hochstein Performance Hall on Friday evening, March 15, 7:30 P.M. The Mass in C Major is Beethoven at his Romantic best, fiery, supremely beautiful and heart-wrenching. On this program, it is set off by the vocal fireworks the youthful Mozart: his solo motet “Exsultate, jubilate” and the sprightly offertory “Benedictus sit Deus.” As a counterpart to the Teutonic fire, Gabriel Faure’s serene, witty and gorgeous “Pavane” opens the second half. There will be much to enjoy, including the solo performances of Alisa Peterson, soprano, Jessica Best, mezzo soprano, Matthew Valverde, tenor and Derrick Smith, bass. Eric Townell conducts the ROS Orchestra. Tickets are available at http://rossings.org/tickets/tickets-ros.htm or by calling the ROS Office, 585.473.4704.
