Written at the time of his Fifth and Sixth Symphonies, the Mass in C reveals the mature Beethoven at his most sublime. Opening the program are two sprightly and familiar classics by Mozart: the offertory Benedictus sit Deus and the ever-popular motet Exsultate, Jubilate. Gabriel Fauré’s exotic, serene Pavane sets the Germanic music in perfect relief. Brilliant soprano Alisa Peterson, a favorite in Rochester from her award-winning Classical Idol appearances, joins Jessica Ann Best, Matthew Valverde and Derrick Smith as soloist for this evening of choral classics. Eric Townell conducts the ROS Orchestra.
