Rochester’s Classical Idol

by ROS ~ April 24th, 2014. Filed under: Event.

Join Rochester Oratorio Society for their 8th season of Classical Idol, Rochester’s own international professional singing competition. Professional vocal solo performers will be making their way to Rochester for two intensive days of competition, in hopes of being crowned the next Classical Idol. Semi-Finals will take place on Friday May 9th at Asbury First United Methodist Church starting at 1:00pm, and are open to the public for free. 10 finalists will be announced that night. Finalists will then perform in front of a panel of judges and the public on Saturday May 10th at Temple B’rith Kodesh. Light food, and a silent auction will start at 6:00pm , with the competition starting at 7:30pm.

Contestants sing before a panel of judges who offer constructive feedback as an aid to career development. The comments may include advice not only on singing but also performance skills, diction, body language, and appearance. The comments reflect the diverse backgrounds of the judges who may be active in the music industry as performers, agents, managers of companies or vocal teachers. Not only have our past contestants said the comments are the most valuable part of the event for them, but the audience can better understand what it takes to be a professional artist.

Guest panelists for the semi-final and final rounds this season include Martha Wade, President of Wade Artists Management, New York; Curtis Tucker, general director of Opera Saratoga, and Constance Fee, Director of the vocal programs at Roberts Wesleyan College. Eric Townell, Artistic Director of the Rochester Oratorio Society and the Rochester Lyric Opera, leads and facilitates the panel.  Brenda Tremblay, Morning Drive Host and Producer for WXXI Public Broadcasting, is master of ceremonies for the final round, which is open to the public by general admission.

Join us for a night of a great competition, light food, drink, and a silent auction with a special appearance by the Roc City Singers, led by RAPA’s Artistic Director Judith A. Ranaletta. The Roc City Singers offers a unique opportunity for young performers to grow artistically, as well as personally. Judith has developed and nurtured hundreds of young performers, dozens who are now successful performing artists worldwide.
