A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

The Genesee Country Village and Museum in Mumford, NY presents A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at Brooks Grove Church in the historic village on Saturday, July 25, at 4:30pm.

This service celebrates the Christmas story and prophecies through scripture readings interspersed with hymns and carols. It has been observed on Christmas Eve at King’s College, Cambridge, England, since 1918, and more recently has become featured in American churches at Christmastime.

The lessons will be read by museum volunteers and staff, as well as members of the surrounding communities. The music will include special arrangements of traditional Christmas pieces, as well as uniquely American works of the season. This event is part of the Genesee Country Village and Museum’s “Christmas in July” weekend. It is free and open to the public, and the great meadow will be available for those wishing to bring a picnic meal to enjoy before the service.

The Genesee Harmonic Society is a group comprising primarily museum volunteers and staff, who, since 1991, perform late 18th- through early 20th-century American choral music. For the past seven years they have been under the direction of Gian Carlo Cervone. Kathy Griswold accompanies at the piano and Jeremy Rath at the organ.
