The Rochester Oratorio Society makes a joyful sound to celebrate seven decades of great singing in CELEBRATING 70, Friday, March 11, 2016, 7:30 P.M., at the Hochstein Performance Hall. Alumni from across the country return to honor the occasion with longtime friends. Eric Townell leads the ROS and a professional brass ensemble in familiar festive music by Brahms, Handel, Haydn, John Rutter and Norman Dello Joio. ROS Emeritus Director Roger Wilhelm shares the podium. The Rochester Oratorio Society, founded in 1945, is the leading choral/orchestral ensemble in Rochester, New York, and the surrounding seven-county region. The ROS has performed concert tours to Eastern Europe, Italy, Scandinavia and China; performed a live, one-hour televised concert for WXXI’s “Voices” series; collaborated with the region’s finest vocalists, instrumentalists, ensembles and artists in other disciplines, including numerous appearances with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra; commissioned and premiered major works; and initiated a solo vocal competition of national stature which continues to this day (Classical Idol).
