Greece Choral Society at St Charles Borromeo Church

The Greece Choral Society is now in its 42th Season! It was organized in 1970 by its present Director, Ralph Zecchino. Approximately 85 singers rehearse on Monday evenings from 7:15-9:30 PM , September through May, at Greece Athena High School, 800 Long Pond Road. The Choral Society is a founding member of the Greater Rochester Choral Consortium (GRCC), and one of the mainstays of the Greece Performing Arts Society (GPAS).

In 1990 they combined with the Rochester Oratorio Society and again in 1994 with the Buffalo Choral Arts Society to perform on European concert tours.  The Greece Choral Society has also collaborated with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Greece Symphony, Geneseo Symphony and Festival Chorus, and the Buffalo Youth Philharmonic.  The choir regularly performs at the Town of Greece Supervisor’s summer concert series and at the Ontario Beach “Wegmans’ Concerts by the Shore” Series.  They also perform annual Christmas and Spring Concerts, at St. Charles Borromeo Church, in Greece.

GPAS WINTER BLAHS POP CONCERT

Saturday, March 24  7 PM at the Greece Athena High School Gym.  $5 Donation.

With the Greece Choral Society, Greece Symphony, Greece Community Orchestra, Greece Concert Band and Greece Jazz Band–all member groups of the Greece Performing Arts Society.  Cabaret seating tickets are $5.00, available at the door.  Refreshments and raffle tickets available for purchase.  This is the Greece Performing Arts Scociety’s major fund-raising concert of the season.

TOTALLY BROADWAY

Sunday, May 6  3:30 PM at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3003 Dewey Avenue.  Free- Donations Welcomed.

Featuring the Greece Choral Society with the Chorus of the Genesee.  Special guest soloist, Cindy Miller.  A variety of music from the Broadway stage.

WEGMAN’S CONCERT BY THE SHORE

Wednesday, August 1  7 PM at the Ontario Beach Pavillion. Free.

The Greece Choral Society performs with the Greece Jazz Band.  Bring your own lawn chair and enjoy an hour and a half of music under the stars.  Hot dogs and snacks sold by Wegmans on-site with proceeds given to charity.

GREECE SUPERVISOR’S CONCERT WITH THE GREECE CHORAL SOCIETY

Sunday, August 5  2 PM, Greece Town Hall front lawn, 1 Vince Tofany Blvd, Greece.  Free.

Annual “concert under the big tent” sponsored by the Town of Greece.  About an hour of music for the entire community.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Sunday, December (2 or 9, TBA)  7:30 PM, at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3003 Dewey Avenue.  Free- Donations Welcomed.

Come and join the Greece Choral Society, Greece Symphony Orchestra, and another musical group (TBA) in a holiday celebration for young and old alike.  Hear familar songs that everyone will enjoy.

Musica Spei presents

St. Nicholas Saves the Day:

An evil pagan King, a steadfast Christian boy, and a kindly Saint

Featured will be a sung medieval mystery play, based on a miracle attributed to Saint Nicholas. The play tells the story of a boy abducted from his family to serve a pagan king and how, after a year of prayers, fasting and supplication to the Saint by his mother, the boy is returned to his family, unharmed.

Rounding out the performance will be a Magnificat and selections from a Nativity Mass by Loyset Compère, who “wrote some of the sweetest music of the 15th century”.
