On Saturday, December 16th at Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church, the Mount Hope World Singers in collaboration with Plena will present a benefit concert entitled Pangaea, Reuniting the Continents

The Mount Hope World Singers are volunteer singers from the Rochester area who are conducted by Brian White. Brian holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music. He has worked with the Mount Hope World Singers since 2015, and is the Instrumental Director at the Aquinas Institute of Rochester. For this performance, the Mount Hope World Singers will be accompanied by: Burak Direk on percussion, Cathy Cohen on piano, Fran Kreider on recorder, Alyssa Rodriguez on violin, and Austin Wahl on guitar.

Selections by the Mount Hope World Singers include folk songs, traditional melodies and newer compositions from a wide variety of countries and cultures, sung in their original languages

Plena is a Rochester-based group dedicated to providing relief to people affected by hurricanes Maria and Irma. A plena is a style of call and response music in the Afro-Caribbean tradition. It was once used to spread news within Puerto Rican communities. Plena sponsors cultural events which directly benefit small, highly effective organizations with a person-to-person presence and direct connections to the island of Puerto Rico. Plena of Rochester invites you to respond to the call of our brothers and sisters on the island and everywhere love is needed.
