Office Hours: Music for the Liturgy of the Hours

Musica Spei presents a collection of works by various composers meant to be used during the Liturgy of the Hours, a monastic religious practice dating back to the 5th century. Featured composers include Palestrina, Lassus, Gallus, Aniero, and Josquin. The audience will hear works that correspond to each hour in the liturgy.

The Liturgy of the Hours dates back to the 5th century monasteries and consists of a set of prayers and music for each hour of the day.  From Matins to Compline, Musica Spei will perform works by Palestrina, Josquin, Gallus, Lassus, and others to coincide with the order of the hours.  The audience will experience a wide range of styles and musical textures, from double choir/antiphonal works to contemplative and somber pieces.  This series consists of 2 concerts: Friday, May 31st at 7:30pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburn, NY and Saturday, June 1st at 8pm at St. Anne Catholic Church in Rochester.  Suggested donation is $10.  There will be receptions following both performances.
