Four youthful masterworks evoke the miraculous joy of music-making for the 15th Season of the Finger Lakes Choral Festival. Sunday, July 28, 2019, 3:00 PM, Hochstein Performance Hall. A benefit for DWIGHT (Doing What Is Good and Healthy Together), Monroe Community College's food pantry initiative.
Accompanied by members of the Penfield Symphony Orchestra, the Finger Lakes Choral Festival offers Giacomo Puccini's glorious Messa di Gloria, a youthful work showing hallmarks of the Italian master's later operatic masterpieces. This is joined by Mendelssohn's precocious Piano Concerto No. 1 in G Minor with Ines Draskovich as soloist, and Wagner's radiant Prelude to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Pablo Casal's rapturous setting for women's voices of "Nigra Sum" from the Song of Songs rounds out the program. Eric Townell conducts. Experienced choristers are cordially invited to join. Admission is free of charge, but donations of cash or food items are strongly encouraged and will be collected at the door to benefit D.W.I.G.H.T., Monroe Community College's initiative to address food insufficiency. Sunday, July 28, 3:00 PM at Hochstein Performance Hall, 50 Plymouth Avenue North. Details at www.fingerlakeschoral.org.
