Handel: Utrecht Te Deum
Brahms: Naenie
Vaughan Williams: Toward the Unknown Region

Three Choral Masterworks

In Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 7:30 the Eastman-Rochester Chorus and Eastman School Symphony will present the early Handel masterpiece, the Te Deum for the Peace of Utecht (1713) under music director William Weinert.  The Te Deum was Handel's first major success in England, and his first work set in the English language.  Two beloved masterworks from the Romantic era will be led by guest conductor Caleb Hopkins:  Brahms's Naenie and Toward the Unknown Region by Ralph Vaughan Williams, in celebration of the bicentennial of the birth of the poet Walt Whitman.  Widely acclaimed as America's greatest poet, Whitman's verse was extremely popular with British composers of the early twentieth century, as well as with Americans.
