Baroque String Workshop

on Nov. 9, 2019 at Kodak Hall

A baroque string workshop taught by faculty of the Eastman Community Music School in conjunction with the Rochester Early Music Festival. This workshop will be held in Messinger Hall (10 Gibbs Street), Room 1 of the Eastman Community Music School.

Did you know that you can study baroque violin and baroque cello at Eastman Community Music School (ECMS)? In this workshop, ECMS faculty members Boel Gidholm and Christopher Haritatos will give an introduction to historically informed performance practice and perform musical examples from the 1600s and 1700s. They will show the differences between the baroque and modern versions of their instruments, demonstrate various styles of baroque improvisation and ornamentation, and answer questions about studying baroque violin and cello at various levels. A baroque violin and bow will be available for interested students to try, courtesy of Sullivan Violins. Boel and Christopher have performed on period instruments, across Europe and North America, for over 20 years, and are Co-Directors of the chamber ensemble Publick Musick.
