🎶 Summer is for singing! 🎶
Starting Wednesday, July 8th, join members of Musica Spei for our annual Summer Sings! We’ll be gathering every Wednesday evening throughout July to explore beautiful 4, 5, and 6-part sacred Renaissance pieces straight from our extensive library.
Whether you're a long-time early music lover or just looking to sing some gorgeous polyphony this summer, we would love to have you. Come sing with us! 🌟
Every summer, Musica Spei offers a series of informal, just-for-fun early-music “sings” open to anyone who wants to participate.
Here’s how it works: For 4 Wednesday evenings in July, STARTING July 8th, interested singers and listeners join us, in the resonant splendor of St. Anne Church, to sight-read choral works from the medieval and renaissance periods. Sitting in a circle, with a member of Musica Spei giving pitches and generally keeping time, we sing our way through pieces from our own music collection and from the early-music collection at the Sibley Music Library.
Feel free to join us, especially if
-
you’re intrigued by early choral music (by composers like Palestrina, Byrd, Josquin, Tallis, Gesualdo, Victoria, and Compère)
-
you have some sight-singing experience (keep in mind that we can try to seat you near a strong sight-reader in your voice part)
-
you’re interested in singing 4, 5, and 6-part polyphony
-
you’d like to meet people who share your passion for music
We particularly encourage those who might be interested in auditioning with Musica Spei to come to a Summer Sing (or three!), to find out more about what this music is all about. Please identify yourself to the person leading the Sing, so that we know you might like to audition, as we are always on the lookout for singers we think might complement our sound and fit in well.
